Tiff Run Cycle by Piggybank12 Tiff Run Cycle by Piggybank12
I made this yesterday in an effort to learn how to animate using Photoshop. I ended up cheating a little and used Flash to do the actual animation and lineart (just so I could catch and fix any goof-ups I made more easily), but the shading and final composition had to be done completely in Photoshop.

It's got a couple odd ends here and there, but for the exercise that it was, I'm very happy with it. Makes me really appreciate how hard it must have been to make the art and animation in the original show, and it also makes me excited to see what I could use this animation technique for in the future. Animating her was tough as well, as I ended up having to forget a few animation tricks I usually use in my work to make her move more choppy like in the show. :XD:

It's not really a case of being good at drawing anime; it's just learning how to adapt to different ways of drawing and animating.  Although I could have done better with this one, looking back at it now. :XD:

Thank you for the compliment!

Good point, haha.  I do like drawing stuff from Kirby; heck, I used to draw Kirby all the time back in elementary school.  I've been looking for some different projects to do as well that don't focus on Sonic or MLP, so I'll keep that in mind and see what I can do. :)

I honestly don't really know yet, haha.  I've got a bunch of animation projects I have to do for my computer animation class here at college, but those usually can't be fan projects unless you have permission from the company/person that owns the property.  I did recently buy the CS5.5 Master Collection though, and I'm trying to think up some ideas for what to make in After Effects on my own time... :D

Oh yeah, I love the Kirby games and series! I have a decent number of the Kirby games (even the first one for the game boy,) and I watched the TV show a lot when it was around too. I think I still have the VHS copy of the first three episodes of the show as well, lol.

I was even tempted to make Kirby for this run cycle instead, but Kirby's too easy for me to draw. :XD:

I have the Dream Collection. I've at least played every game except Squeak Squad and I detest the anime for specific reasons.

I've been meaning to get the Dream Collection for a while now. It looks pretty awesome, even for someone that has some of the games in the collection already.

I can understand why some would hate the anime; I won't deny that it has quite a few problems that make me hate parts of it today. But, I still love a surprising amount of stuff they made for it (the episode where Dedede opens an animation studio is still my favorite episode in the show, haha), and I love that they tried to give Kirby, of all game characters, more character and story development with the people working on the games watching over the show's development. Whether they succeeded though is a whole other debate. :XD:

What I don't like about the anime is what's wrong with the Sonic Games nowadays.
Introducing otherwise worthless characters, not dissing The two characters that tag along with Kirby, they're just unneeded.
It gave character development to something that didn't really need it.
King Dedede was a much more Evil character in this.
Cappies used to be enemies, minus Chef Kawasaki...who STILL fought kirby.
Overall the only character that I thoroughly enjoy is Meta Knight, he is the very definition of how I'd see him as a developed character. Frog Wild (which I have yet to see in English) is my favourite episode because it's simple.
The one thing I hate, not just ab out this show, but NEARLY EVERY GAME-BASED ANIME, is the fact that they have to shove some Japanese heritage/legend/myth/etc into it, and Kirby 3D DOES count.

Hoo boy, here I go. :XD:

First off, the Sonic games haven't introduced any new characters since Sonic Unleashed, except for Cubot or whatever his name was in Sonic Colors, so I wouldn't exactly call that a problem we have today. Shoehorning new characters into stuff though was certainly a problem back when this show was running, and not just for Kirby and Sonic; pretty much every video game series had this problem.

Are Tiff and Tuff useless and completely unneeded? From a Kirby video game standpoint, yes they're useless, but they're actually pretty darn important for a TV show. Kirby: Right Back At Ya is in that category of TV shows where the main character cannot talk or communicate at all with words. He can't write, he can barely talk, and heck, we can't even hear his thoughts like we can with Garfield. In that sense, having Tiff and Tuff or ANYONE there is almost a necessity. I don't know about you, but even if it's Kirby I don't know if I could stick around to watch over 60 22-minute episodes featuring a main character that can't talk, not without someone else there being able to talk and help break the silence.

I don't think it was really Dedede being "evil" that annoyed me about him in the show; rather, it was just the fact that he and Escargoon rarely learned ANYTHING, and it got really annoying in the finale for the show when they kept constantly screwing up attacks for the crew not because they were purposely doing it, but because they were also acting like complete morons. I don't mind Dedede acting like an idiot and doing something completely ridiculous, but I do mind it if that's what almost every episode consists of him doing and him learning absolutely nothing from it, and ESPECIALLY if he does it more than once in the same episode.

Making the cappies/Kawasaki friends is confusing too for those that play the games, but I honestly got over it. It did do more to flesh out the cast, even if it wasn't the greatest option.

I like Meta Knight's character too, and I completely agree with what you said. The way he's portrayed in the show (at least in the 4kids dub; I haven't seen the original, which I guess is different in quite a few ways) is pretty much how I always saw him in the games, even before the show came out. I haven't seen Frog Wild either, probably because it never got put out in English. :XD:

As for the Japanese heritage thing, I honestly found it pretty enlightening for someone like me that doesn't know all that much about Japanese culture and heritage. I do notice it is a VERY big re-occurring theme in anime though, and I understand where you're coming from there.

I only got to see the first part of Kirby 3D too. I gotta go dig up the second part somewhere and see the rest, haha.

Likewise, I only got to see the second part of Kirby 3D.

Anyways, while I'm not hard-pressed into hating the show, there ARE certain aspects that I both hate beyond recognition, and love a LOT.

Nightmare is all together more menacing and would be even more menacing that that, provided he had a more menacing actor in the 4Kids Dub.

One thing I dislike a lot, is the Kirby 3D monster, having absolutely nothing to do with any newer Kirby characters, despite being released in between Return To DreamLand and Mass Attack. And Kabuki Kirby has to be, yet wickedly powerful, the stupidest Kirby transformation ever. (in my opinion.)

Onto Mass Attack, which Many people say is the Anime's game in the series. Due to Escargoon (Another of my favourite characters, I'm always a sucker for the sidekick that's more intelligent than the main villain) making an appearence, as well as Tiff, Tuff (I believe), and Kabuki Kirby.

Not to mention Water Kirby making his game debut in RTDL.

As for Japanese culture, while I do find it interesting to learn it, these shows need to do it more subtly, not just shove "a great samurai warrior who's tale was passed down from generations to come!" into it. It did similar things with the Mario Anime Movie, Sonic X at times, and even smaller game franchises had this problem, like MegaMan Star Fighters

...Yeah, Cue Nostalgia Critic WTF Face.

I do like how they kept Nightmare in the background as an overarching force for most of the show, and I do agree that they could have made him much more menacing in the 4kids dub with a different voice actor. It's a kids show, and you don't want to scare kids, sure, but I still think he could have benefited from a scarier or more foreboding voice. Dan Green's work as the Salesman though is probably one of my favorite voices in anything 4kids has ever made, lol.

The first monster (which is also the one in Kirby 3D) isn't as memorable as the first episode and the show make it out to be (nor does it show up in the games, which is kinda odd for Nintendo to do), but I honestly don't mind it all that much. It's just the first monster, and even though it does have the problems you mentioned, I thought they made up for it by doing more to include other monsters from the games in future episodes. The first couple episodes of a show usually struggle to find their footing anyway, but once they do they usually go up from there. It's still strange for Nintendo to include that monster in so many things, but I think that's just a factor of Nintendo and HAL hoping Kirby would become bigger than he managed to with the show.

I haven't got to play Mass Attack yet unfortunately, although my younger brother has it and says it's fun. I might have to borrow it from him though and see if it's any good or not for myself. :XD: That's actually kinda cool if they have the characters from the anime in there; now I'm curious to see how they were implemented.

And as for Escargoon, I will admit, I'm really starting to like that character a lot more than I did when I was a kid. I always hated Dedede having a right hand henchmen out of nowhere, but after watching a lot of the episodes again for myself, I really do like Escargoon a lot more than before for a lot of the reasons you mentioned.

Yeah, I see what you mean there. I don't watch all that much anime, but I can definitely see that getting annoying for someone that watches a lot of it, especially for something that typically doesn't have too much Japanese culture in it like Sonic or Kirby.
